So soon? Saddam to hang this weekend

December 29, 2006

I’m against the death penalty, to be sure.  It’s taken me a few years to get there, solidly, but at this point I’m 100% against it.  It’s not right.

When people get the death penalty in the United States, they usually aren’t executed very fast.  We have a lengthy appeals process and several other things that wind up postponing a death sentence for many years, sometimes even decades.

So, when the death knell came for Saddam, I figured we would watch him whither for a while in prison while the process ticked away.  But no!  He’s going to hang tomorrow!  From the Forbes article today:

saddamA few minutes ago we received correspondence from the Americans saying that President Saddam Hussein is no longer under the control of U.S. forces,” according to the statement faxed to The Associated Press.

“Saddam will be executed today or tomorrow,” said Munir Haddad, a judge on the appeals court that upheld Saddam’s death sentence. “All the measures have been done.”

Will the world watch it on prime time?  I bet.

Iraq has yet to get infested with liberal judges and lawyers that side with the criminals and not with the victims. Give them time and it will eventually happen – just like it has in the USA.

I hope his execution is on TV – I’ll pour a glass of Cabernet and toast the one that pulls the door release.

Your right about the death penalty in the USA – and to make matters worse when it does happen, it is done practically in secret. Let’s bring back public hangings! I mean, how can capital punishment be a deterrent when no one can see justice and on top of that – they are executed better than most loved pets that have to be put down.

The sorriest thing about all this is that this man committed some of these crimes with American Government help, making us accomplices. I am no fan of this man, but DON’T want to be involved with this as I know there is far more to learn about what he really did, and what we had to do with it.
glad to see someone else is blogging about this, no matter how you feel about this, it needs to be discussed.

Sadly since the US invastion more US soldiers and Iraqis have died than under Saddams regime. Who is going to pay for those deaths?
